Mind - Pearls and Blooming Cacti
Had an insightful conversation about uncertainty, creativity and love recently. What I took away from that conversation was the following: When we approach each day with a certain amount of freshness, without expectation but with gratitude, we open ourselves up to the possibility of experiences that can end up being profound. Where we can look back and think, “wow, that was such a beautiful time—within that space lies the pearl that we can add to the string that is the necklace of our life story.”
Some pearls are small and dense, others large and uniquely colored. Either way the point is to approach each day as if it were an opportunity to cultivate something precious, and to take a creative approach toward expressing love and kindness. In theory, the more we do this the longer and more beautiful our necklace becomes.
And so, this mindfulness prompt is actually a meditation rooted in the buddhist Metta mantra for loving kindness.
Repeat the phrases:
May I/you be happy.
May I/you be well.
May I/you be safe.
May I/you be peaceful and at ease.

I realized that last year I didn’t make a self-portrait. There are plenty of reasons why that didn’t happen, but seeing as the past is the past, and seeing as the only way out is through, I’ve started working on a sketch/study for this years’ portrait. You can find that here.
A very direct representation of the alchemy, integration and regeneration I’ve experienced in the last year. More on this later.
